This project will map the growing private sector interest in biodiversity conservation and produce a data-driven landscape of organizations that incorporate ocean biodiversity into decision-making.
Private sector entities — from corporations to mission-driven NGOs — are increasingly willing to adopt practices that better steward the biodiversity their operations depend on. A clearer understanding of this ecosystem has the potential to unlock opportunities for these actors to leverage each other’s strengths for greater collective impact.”
To engage these communities, a team from Arizona State University’s Center for Biodiversity Outcomes will:
Draw on relationships with the business community to gather interested partners;
Host a convening of key private sector actors working on ocean biodiversity; and
Conduct a landscape map of the array of civil society organizations with objectives related to ocean biodiversity.
The team will then develop a typology of private sector benefits derived from healthy oceans and identify gaps and opportunities for collaboration between existing ocean biodiversity knowledge and current organizational activity.
