This project will conduct climate scenario planning to establish adaptive management strategies for tuna fisheries in the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission’s (IATTC) Convention Area, spanning from Canada to Chile in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

The IATTC aims to incorporate best available science on the impacts of climate change on tuna and other highly migratory species and climate resilient fisheries practices into tuna fisheries management. They will adopt a scenario planning approach that provides opportunities for diverse stakeholders and IATTC members to contribute to resilience and adaptation planning.

This project will fund the IATTC to convene fishing industry members, fisheries managers and scientists, regional fisheries management organizations, non-governmental organizations, and others to:

  • Share knowledge and better understand climate impacts;
  • Develop plausible future climate scenarios; and
  • Co-produce governance and management strategies.

This project was funded in February 2026 as part of the 2025 Climate Resilient Fisheries Engagement Grants.
